Keep Your Deck Clean

Decks should be cleaned regularly and every once in a while, they need to be power washed in order to get rid of all the grime that may be built up on it.

Here are cleaning tips to keep in mind while cleaning the deck:

Inspect: Before you actually start the cleaning, inspect the entire deck thoroughly. Which areas collect the most dirt? Which area should you start from in order to finish the quickest? Plan how to go about cleaning the deck so that you can keep all the cleaning agents ready before you start.

Wash: Next comes the washing of the deck. Power washing is the best way to get rid of any kind of dirt. Use a good sprayer along with a lot of soap and scrub the entire deck, including the deck railing and steps. At this stage ensure that the deck has been cleaned properly and you have scrubbed off all the mildew, other particles.

Rinse: Once the washing stage is over, use a hose to give the deck a gentle rinse. This will help you wash out all the soap and dirt that is left on the deck. Once this step is complete, you will be left with a clean deck and let you can let it dry in the sun.

Deck Maintenance

Keeping The Deck Free From Damage

Besides cleaning deck, it should also be stained at least once in a year. Before it is stained, the entire deck should be checked for any loose boards or nails and should be repaired wherever necessary. If you find a bad or loose board, remove it carefully. Then go and buy a new replacement board which will fit the exact size of the missing board in your deck. Look for pressure treated wood if you want a good board. Attach this new board carefully and nail it down properly. Once that it done, it should be coated with a deck sealer to protect it. All nails and screws should also be checked and changed when they start to rust. Ensure that they are hammered into the wood properly and they do not stick out.

Staining a deck is important in order to keep the deck looking great. You can use a wood stain of your choice but look for one which gives your deck the most protection.
